Debut UK EP "Say Something New" out now

Your feet won't touch the ground when you listen to The Concretes' UK EP, 'Say Something New'

"Stunning gossamer pop from Sweden. Like fairies on angel dust caught in cobwebs. Or a pixie in a labyrinth of ice" - NME: Feb 04

Some bands spend their entire careers trying to conjure up a sound as magical as Stockholm's The Concretes have on their debut UK release. Indeed, ‘Say Something New’ is that rare thing: a debut that takes in the entire history of drop-dead cool rock’n’roll (from The Shangri Las to Mazzy Star) yet stumbles on a sound unlike anything that’s ever gone before it.

'Say Something New' was released back in April this year through Licking Fingers Records, and has received considerable acclaim from fans across the board.

The opener, ‘Say Something New’, is a perfectly-formed pop gem that wraps the deathly drum thud of The Velvets in organ swirls around Singer Victoria Bergsman’s star-sprinkled vocals; ‘Forces’ is a more understated work of art, tenderly dusted with subtle instrumental flourishes; whereas ‘Sugar’ propels itself along weaving guitar lines, at times fragile, at others charged with the driving rhythms, giddy melodies and joyous horns akin to any classic 60’s girl group.

Finally, you’re left with ‘Miss You’, a cover of the Rolling Stones’ classic, to really demonstrate the depths of The Concretes’ musical vision. As enchanting as it is dislocated and ghostly, it’s a passion-crazed paean to those moments in life where your world is gripped with intense infatuation. Once you hear The Concretes, those moments will become all too familiar.

You may have caught The Concrete's performance at London's 100 Club on 22nd April, and we're now pleased to announce that The Concretes are playing V2004 on the 21st and 22nd of August. They join a host of names such as The Strokes, The Pixies, Muse, Scissor Sisters, Keane, Amy Winehouse...and more! So make sure you're down there...

For those of you who didn't manage to get tickets to V2004, never fear - you can celebrate the New Year with The Concretes! The band are doing a gig at Shepherds Bush Empire in London on 31st December, along with Saint Etienne and The Magic Numbers.

The Concretes are: Victoria Bergsmanm, Maria Eriksson, Martin Hansson, Ulrik Karlsson, Lisa Milberg, Per Nystrom, Daniel Varjo and Ludvig Rylander.

“ A splendid, peppermint-pop octet from Sweden fronted by a pair of flaming lips” – Rolling Stone
