Blue UK Tour - Sheffield Arena Sheffield, Arena 23/11/02 by Tara a.k.a Lady Muck
After counting down the weeks and days the night had finally come. We finally arrived with two bus loads of others from the small towns of Grimsby and Scunthorpe at about 7:15 to be greeted by the thousands of other Blue fans just like ourselves, waiting to go in. Upon going through the doors the venue was heaving with excited people frantically buying merchandise and trying to find their seats. After purchasing a programme [bit pricey but the contents were very nice] we found our seats, which werent the best seats in the house but could have been worse.
Everyone eagerly waited for it all to kick off. The support acts were entertaining and it was a surprise to see Rosie Ribbons come on stage. I thought VSs were pretty good and I hope they do well in the future, they could go far. After an interval came an unusual start to the main performance. When Blue came on stage on the buggy the screams from the crowd were deafening and the atmosphere was amazing. As you looked around there were loads of poeple waving flashing things like the blue flashing wand that I bought or wearing silly headbands on their heads. These made it all that more special.
The first song was Riders one of my favourites off the second album and all the lads looked mighty fine in their tight leathery outfits. Simon looked especially jazzy with his Afro. The screams continued and those who knew the words sang along. The introduction to Too Close was particularly clever and Lee did a great job, he reminded me so much of Lee Evans. Before Aint Got You the volume reached a new level as the two sides of the arena tried to outdo one another by answering Anthony and Simons "I say Blue......." [Anthonys side definitely better !!]
All the lads took there turn in addressing their fans and thanking us all for our support, it was nice of them to acknowledge us all. Its hard too say which part I liked best it was all great but when they did there boogie nights performance in their seventies gear that was brilliant even with the cheesy dance moves! Towards the end after performing Back in my life they made out that it was the end and went off stage and people began to get up and leave but they hadnt done Flyby, one of their biggest hits. I thought this was unusual and had a feeling there was more to come and rightly so there was and on they came and performed Fly By as the last song of the night, a great end to a great concert. My only criticism apart from the prices of the merchandise was the time literally seemed to Flyby and it just wasnt on for long enough.
I would like to thank all the members of Blue for such a spectacular performance and such a wonderful night of boogieing, dancing, singing and screaming and for making that night the best night of my life. Well worth the money. Cant wait for more, bring on the next tour!!
