Manu Chao Creates Chaos in Bristol!

A special night in Bristol, with Manu's first trip to the West Country since appearing with his previous band Mano Negra at the Glastonbury Festival in the mid 1980's. Fiddlers was rammed to the rafters and could have sold out many times over. Those lucky enough to get a ticket were treated to an electrifying two and a half hour performance of high octane punky ska and reggae mixed with Manu's own brand of funky world rhythms. The audience danced all night, and even the two short intervals featured a sound system complimenting the live band and making the music run seamlessly. This must have been one of the best live shows ever to grace the small stage at Fiddlers, and at times even Manu seemed overwhelmed by the warmth and energy of the audience response. Could he be to ska music what Bob Marley was to reggae? A bit unfair perhaps because Manu's music embraces many different styles, but on the evidence of this triumphant performance it won't be long before his popularity in this country matches his "superstar" status on the continent.
