Not this occasion, Vex Red 1st support to Crackout were loafing about the country in style without so much as a whisper of a record coming out. Does that mean they are destined for great things? Vex Red rock in the way that hasn't been seen since the heady days of Seattle at its peak. The lead singer is destined for a million bedroom walls with smouldering Johnny Depp looks and a Pearl Jamesque style delivery. Confident on stage and totally at ease with his onstage antics, he rambled almost campily between songs about 'us' being the best audience and other trivia that had the effect of causing the girls to swoon further! The drummer (who looked like he was straight out of a cartoon) panned the drums with more aplomb and dexterity than any other I have seen this year, a total manic metronome. The rest of the band did the business, keyboard samples and plenty of guitars were utilised to great effect.
The wall of noise was intense and you don't have to be a genius to realise Robinson is going to make them next years heroes. I am of course referring to Americam metal guru Ross Robinson. As producer and mentor, you can only imagine that his midas touch will be the icing on the cake for a band in the ascendency. Watch out for the Radio 1 session. Checkout www.vexred.co.uk for more.
