Up Close And Personal With Hilary Duff

What was your favourite video to make?

‘Beat of My Heart’. I did that just before I came on this promo trip and the concept is just really cool. I have a lot of faith in the director and was was very “I have a vision and we’re sticking to it” and I really liked that about him. We had great wardrobe and hair and makeup looks and it was just a lot of fun. We had very cool sets and a lot of it is going to be special effects as well, so I just can’t wait to see it. Actually, now that I’m thinking about it I should check up on it and see a rough cut – I’m really excited to see what it’s going to be like.

The video for ‘Wake Up’ also looked a lot of fun to make…

I think that’s my other favourite video that I shot – I liked the director as well. I was in the middle of filming ‘Cheaper by the Dozen 2’ at the time, so we filmed it in Canada and they found some great sets – some old, trashy kinda bars like the New York scene takes place at – that’s a different look. Then we have a London look that looks a lot like a place in London – it’s got really cool wallpaper and it’s kind of loungy – the look is a little more relaxed and laid back. We have a Japanese look that’s much more pop and lashes, and I have a black wig on. The place is really modern - there’s cabs and apartments – and it’s just really cool and the look of the video goes really fast – it’s a really high energy concept.

What can the UK fans expect from the Hilary Duff live experience?

They can expect energy, you know. My show isn’t choreographed, so it’s just kind of what I feel at the time – I want to make people happy and have fun with them. My music’s live and my band is live – and they’re awesome. I don’t change clothes – it’s definitely not like a pop show that you would think, but the graphics are really cool – we have huge screens and really cool laser lights. It’s a lot of fun – I love it!

Will you be touring the UK sometime soon?

I am, probably in the spring some time because in January I tour Canada – I’ve just finished my American tour, so in Canada I tour for four weeks and then I’m on to Asia and Australia, but I think that in the spring I’ll be in the UK and Europe too to do more shows.

Are you working on some new material at the moment?

I’m not, no. I feel that in the past two years everything I’ve been doing has been interfering with everything else – I’ll be filming a movie and then at night I’ll go into the studio to record and then at the weekends I’ll be doing a press junket for this movie coming out, or I’ll be flying here for a show then flying there for a show, you know? It’s too much at one time to really focus on one thing, so I think that the next time I go into the studio to record an album will probably be in about 7 months and I want to do it a little differently – like maybe have one producer and stick with them the whole album, because pop artists work with a different producer for each track. I think it would be really cool to get really personal with someone and create something, and take time off while I’m making records.
