Drew Talks Exclusively to the-raft!
J: what have u been up to?
D: ah, weve done a few gigs, we did Glastonbury, the acoustic stage which was really good. Recently weve just been doing loads of rehearsing really as the albums coming out in March. I lost my bass player and guitarist though...
J: Oh no, what happened?
D: Well, one went to college in Exeter and the other one just wanted to get off The Isle of White!! Were all based here, so he just wanted to get off and do something else.
J: What was Glastonbury like?
D: It was amazing, I remember trying to do an interview with you actually, and it just wasnt working cos I was so nervous about the gigs! Its all changed now, Im not playing guitar anymore, just singing, but yeah, Glasto was just amazing.
J: Do you feel in anyway uncomfortable without your guitar?
D: Sometimes, but Ive done about five or six gigs now without guitar and Im, you know, getting used to it now. Its nice just to concentrate on the singing and get that across.
J: When was the album recorded?
D: We thought it would be done quite quickly the album, but I mean, I recorded about four (tracks) before we even recorded Under The Weather and that came out last march or something. We did the first lot in a shed (owned by The Bees) and then they got a house with a studio underneath it where we recorded the rest of the tracks there last summer. Then we went and mixed it all down at Abbey Road.
J: What was the recording like?
D: It was great. Really good experience. Its just me and Paul on the album, he played then produced it too.
J: So it was a pretty fast process?
D: yeah definitely. I mean some people can take weeks to do a track but we just went in and laid it all down, like the guitars, bass, vocal harmonies...a lot of it was just made up on the day.
J: Why do you record so quickly?
D: It was weird, cos it was all sorted out for Paul to produce the album, but then he got really busy and he was trying to record The Bees new album and we just wanted to get the stuff down quick. It seemed to flow really well though and didnt seem like we were rushing it or anything.
