Catch up with the X-Factor
A: Hi Richard, howve you been, what you been up to?
R: Ive been well, Ive been busy, Ive been not so busy, Ive been all things to all people. Ever since the albums come out, everything has changed a bit...which is good.
A: How have things changed?
R: Well, when you get an album out you do a lot of promotion trying to let people know about its existence and then it all kinda quietens down, and you can get back into the studio and start making some music again, which has been very welcome.
A: So is there some new material in the pipeline?
R: Yeah, Im just starting to get some new ideas together about what happens next. Theres another single coming out off this album, then maybe another, then its the new stuff, so Im trying to gather my thoughts for that.
A: New year maybe?
R: No, itll be later next year I would have thought. Things happen in slow motion!
A: Tell us about the new single?
R: The new single features a mystery guest vocalist and its taken off the album, so if youve bought the album youll probably know who it is! Its going out as a Richard X single, and you can find out who the mystery guest is when you buy the single. Its a great song though, again its kinda my R&B meets electronica fascination. I think its a bit away from the modern R&B thing, I mean a lot of it was written by the guys who worked with the likes of Alexander ONiell and Janet Jackson, so theres very much a mid-eighties vibe to it. Its just one of those things, where you take them out of context and they sound quite fresh and interesting compared to whats going on today.
A: How involved was the mystery singer in the development of the song?
R: Well, with my album and, kinda, the things Ive done, Ive been a bit more controlling than maybe other producers might be, so its been very much finding the people who are right for the vibe, you know, those people who are a bit different and havent just been given pop success on a plate. So, she was one of those people...(laughs) how bizarre I cant mention who it is! There you go anyway, its a good song at the end of the day.
